    Hi Parents!

    Here are the updates for this week and a glance at the following week as well for your planning.

    Please find attached a WESTMOUNT STAKEHOLDERS PARENT/GUARDIAN SURVEY. This document will come home to you on Monday in paper copy. I am sending it this weekend so you can take a read and be thinking about the questions. We would love to have your input so please make time to complete it and send it back before Friday March 3rd.  There will be a bin at the office for the completed survey- feel free to send back with your child and have them deliver it to the office. If your child is in GR. 3-7 they will also be completing a STUDENT Engagement Survey this coming week at school as well. This information is needed for our SCHOOL LEARNING PLAN we are presently drafting.

    VIRTUE OF THE WEEK: TRUST

    BASKETBALL UPDATE: Congratulations to our TIER 1 BOYS who have moved on to the next round of playoffs. The boys practice Monday Feb. 28 at 7 am and play at McGowan at 3 pm.  ALL OTHER ATHLETES should be reminded to return their jersey to avoid receiving a $50.00 charge for it by Fri. March 3.

    PAC HOT LUNCHES FOR MARCH 10 and APRIL 21 are now available on line at hotlunches.net. PAPER COPIES  of the order forms are available from Mrs. Connelly in the office. They are due MARCH 6th (2:30 pm for paper copies and 5 pm for online). A reminder PAC will also be doing their PURDY's FUNDRAISER in March as well. Don't forget to sign up for PAINT NITE too!

    PAC MOVIE NIGHT IS THIS FRIDAY MARCH 3. Doors open at 6:30 and the movie TROLLS starts at 7 pm. Concession avaiable. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the whole movie.

    This week:

    Mon. Feb. 27- Skating: MacDonald and Ruddick

    Tues. Feb. 28- Recognition Assembly 8:45 am. Heritage Stamp Winners will be announced and a random draw will happen for one lucky student to win PRINCIPAL for the DAY!

    Wed. March 1- Westmount Science Fair! All projects will be set up for parent viewing from 2:30-5:30 with Mrs. Sauer in the gym. Come see the inquiry and project based learning that took place!

    Friday March 3- PAC MOVIE NIGHT 6:30. Please return PARENT STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT SURVEY by today- please. Basketball jersey's due!

    Hi Parents,

    Thanks to those families that joined us for the CARDBOARD CHALLENGE! It was amazing and your children were so creative!

    Here is a glance at this coming week and a sneak peak at the last week of February as well.

    VIRTUE OF THE WEEK: KINDNESS

    BASKETBALL PLAYERS MUST RETURN THEIR PERMISSION FORMS TO GET TO PLAY IN THE PLAYOFFS THIS WEEK.

    PARENTS ARE REMINDED NOT TO COME INTO THE STAFF PARKING LOT at any time. This is off limits to parents at drop off in the morning and at pick up.

    Mon. Feb. 20- Mrs. Eagles and Mr. Blower's go skating at 10:30. "CHARLOTTE" arrives in Mrs. Ruddick's class for their first session. Parents please pay your fees for this. Congratulations to ABI SPENCER who is competing in the DISTRICT SPEECH CONTEST at Hotel 540 at 6 pm. Mr. Blower, her parents and I will be there to cheer her on! Good luck to the TIER 2 BOYS who play at AEP for their first game of Playoffs.

    Tues. Feb. 21- Good luck to the TIER 1 GIRLS in playoff action at RLC today afterschool.

    Wed. Feb. 22- ANTI BULLYING DAY! EVERYONE COME IN PINK PLEASE! We will be serving PINK LEMONADE TO REINFORCE TO THE KIDS TO THINK PINK! We will also do an activity called "HEY DAY"- be sure to ask your kids about this after Wednesday.  PAC POPCORN DAY also today- send $1.  Good luck to the TIER 1 BOYS in playoff action at RLC today afterschool.

    Thurs. Feb. 23- EARLY CLOSURE! 12:30 DISMISSAL. Please have arrangements in place for your children for pick up. PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS 1:30-3:30. Please contact your child's teacher for an interview spot. Staff will be judging the HERITAGE STAMP paragraph designs and paragraphs to derive at our Gr. 3,4,5,6,7 winners for this year.

    KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP SESSION FOR ALL PARENTS with Kindergarten Students entering the system in 2017-2018. HGEC 6:30 pm

    Friday Feb. 24- DISTRICT NON INSTRUCTIONAL DAY- no school for students. Our staff will be at Westsyde Secondary for a Technology Institute.

    Tues. Feb. 28- RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY 8:45- One lucky student is going to win being PRINCIPAL for the DAY! I can't wait to see who the lucky winner is!

    *MARCH NEWSLETTER will come home with lots of great information! Parents can watch for information regarding my process for CLASS PLACEMENT REQUESTS for 2017-2018. Similar to last year, a PINK PARENT REQUEST FORM will be available and parents will have until May 19th to return it. Mrs. Connelly will begin to hand those out starting April 3. We do date stamp them and keep them in order of submission to our office. Parents are reminded NOT to name request a particular teacher, rather talk about the need of their child for optimum learning conditions.

    Wed. March 1- WESTMOUNT SCIENCE FAIR. Parents may view all the projects between 2:30 and 5:30 pm in the gym.

    Friday March 3- PAC MOVIE NIGHT! 6:30 pm doors open. Always a great concession and the SOUND is so improved now that Mr. Walcher set up last time!

    Just aheads up that the next PAC FUNDRAISER IS PURDY'S FOR EASTER! Please consider ordering some of your treats to support our PAC. Order forms will go home Mon. March 6th. The PAC IS ALSO IN NEED OF SUPPORT AND VOLUNTEERS for the YEAR END BBQ. Please email the Westmount PAC to let them know they have your support for a few hours that day in June.

    Don't forget to sign up for the PAC PAINT NITE coming up in April- information attached to this email.

    VIRTUE OF THE WEEK: LOVE (of course! It is Valentine's Day!)

    REMEMBER NO SCHOOL MONDAY FEB. 13- FAMILY DAY

    THE STAFF PARKING LOT is OUT OF BOUNDS TO PARENTS at drop off and pick up times. Please refrain from coming into the lot at any time.

    KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION FOR 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS. Please tell neighbours that have soon to be 5 year olds!

    ATTACHED PLEASE FIND THE FLYER FOR THE MOTHER GOOSE PROGRAM STARTING AT OUR SCHOOL IN APRIL.

    WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR ONE TO ONE READING PROGRAM. Please contact Judy Robinson judymr23hotmail.com if interested

    BASKETBALL PLAYOFF PERMISSION FORMS will come home Tuesday to the TIER 1 Girls and Boys Teams as well as the TIER 2 Boys. Tier 2 Girls will not be participating in playoffs. Their season ends this Thursday.

    Tuesday Feb. 14- VALENTINE'S DAY (lots of class parties so be sure to send what you signed up for!), WEAR PINK OR RED TO SCHOOL!  Mrs. Primus' Class- STAKE LAKE TRIP for the day, TIER 1 GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL TEAMS leave for Clearwater at 11:45 am to play their basketball games. Arrival back to the school approximately 5:45 pm. (taking school bus)

    Wednesday Feb. 15- HEARTS DAY DANCE for Gr. 4-7. Please bring an item for ASK WELLNESS.  There will also be a concession if students want to bring money to get a treat.

    Thursday Feb. 16-  PAC SENOR FROGGY PASTA DAY HOT LUNCH- students will eat at 12:01 today.

    FROM 4:30-6 COME TO THE GYM TO SEE THE PARENT SHOWCASE CARDBOARD CHALLENGE VIEWING! All parents are welcome to see the success of your child's applied design creation~ DROP IN ANYTIME  between 4:30 and 6 that works for you.

    TIER 2 GIRLS play at OLPH.

    Friday Feb. 17- Pizza with the Principal Lunch for the four winners!  It is CARDBOARD CHALLENGE DAY for the students. They will showoff their projects to their peers!

    Please find below the reminder for the upcoming week and a glance at the following week too for your planning:

    VIRTUE OF THE WEEK: COMMITMENT

    RETURN PIZZA WITH THE PRINCIPAL FORMS BY  FEB. 9th

    Mon. Feb. 6- Ruddick and Regan's classes go skating. Please ensure they have all their belongings to attend.

    Mrs. Edstrom, Avneet and myself are presenting at the Board of Education Meeting Feb. 6 at 7 pm at Norkam Secondary.

    Tues. Feb. 7- Tier 1 Boys play at KSA and Tier 2 Boys play at home vs. Kay Bingham. PAC MEETING at 6:15 pm in the library. ALL PARENTS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. We love new faces and hearing your ideas.

    Wed. Feb. 8- PAC POPCORN DAY! Send $1. It is also FRUIT and VEGGIE Program Day and we are expecting KIWI!

    Thurs. Feb. 9- Constable Winkels is coming to our school to do presentations on Physical Aggression. Most of our office referrals are for hands on behaviour. We are hoping that hearing from the RCMP will educate the children about how violence is criminal when they are older so they should form good habits now to assist in being self regulated adults.

    Mrs. Regan and Mrs. Ewashina's classes go SWIMMING today. Please send all the necessary items.

    Tier 1 Girls play at home today vs. South Sahali. Tier 2 girls travel to OLPH.

    There is a KINDERGARTEN EVENT for all parents who will have K's entering the system in September. This is from 6:30-8:30 at the HGEC.

    Friday Feb. 10- FLANNEL SPIRIT DAY! Wear your best plaid and flannel shirts and pants and get in the spirit!

    Mr. Blower, Mrs. Eagles and Mrs. Finley's classes all go swimming today.

    REMINDER: MONDAY FEBRUARY 13 is FAMILY DAY! There is no school for staff or students.

    Next week:

    KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION BEGINS for 2017/2018. There are limited seats due to the capacity issues at our school so don't delay in registering.

    VIRTUE OF THE WEEK: LOVE

    Tues. Feb. 14- WEAR PINK OR RED for Valentine's Day! Many classes having parties of some sort so please sign up on the sheets outside classes so your child is involved. Also, if sending valentine's cards, remember to send one for every child in the class. Inclusion is the only option for all classmates.

    Mrs. Primus' class goes to STAKE LAKE Feb. 14- come prepared for your trip.

    Tier 1 Teams travel to RAFT RIVER today. They will be leaving at 11:45. As principal I will be attending this trip with the teams and coaches.  Tier 2 Boys play at home vs. Dufferin.

    Wed. Feb. 15- Sport Wheelchairs leave Westmount. Heart Day Dance for Gr. 4-7. Please bring an item for ASK WELLNESS for the ME TO WE initiative (toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, brushes, deodorant etc)

    Thurs. Feb. 16- PAC SENOR FROGGY PASTA DAY!  We will eat first this day and play second. Eating starts at 12:01 rather than 12:29.

    CARDBOARD CHALLENGE- PARENT SHOWCASE NIGHT! Come to the school between 4:30 and 6 to see your child's amazing project plus all the others!

    Tier 2 Girls play at OLPH

    Fri. Feb. 17- CARDBOARD CHALLENGE- Student showcase day for their peers. Pizza with the Principal Lunch.
