    Hi Parents,

Here are the updates for the week of May 30-June 3, 2016:

    1. Thanks to all parents for using the Safe Arrival number or website or app to report your child's absence. Each day Mrs. Connelly has saved well over an hour and fifteen minutes by using this new system. We thank you!

    2. Book Fair starts this week. Tuesday-Thursday in our library. Please consider supporting this library fundraiser by getting some books set aside for your child's summer reading.

    3. Bike to School Week is this week! Thanks to Nicholas Campbell and his mom that have registered our school as the Westmount Riders- you can get your child active this week and participating. There is a sign up outside the office so ensure your child has added their name. We hope the bike rikes are filled.

    4. On Monday a reminder to parents in Mrs. MacDonald and Mrs. Denison's classes that they are off to Isobel Lake. Please dress your child for the weather.

    5. Tuesday is our May Recognition Assembly at 8:45 am. Mrs. Regan, Mrs. Ruddick and Mrs. Edstrom's classes will all be performing with their recorders.  Also, our Brain Trust group led by Mrs. Wilson will be showing their A.I.R. video they created called Gary's First Day.

    6. Wednesday Mrs. Regan and Mrs. Scarr's classes will get an Aboriginal Ethnobotony lesson with a guest presenter.

    7. Friday is our Welcome to Kindergarten Event for all our new K's joining us in September. The school will be a busy place as we welcome families into the gym to start each session.

    8. Also on Friday- PAC has their FREEZIE FRIDAY event. Send $1 with your child.

Mrs. Edstrom/Caputo's class will be dressed as pioneers on Friday as they head to the Robbin's Range Heritage School for the day.

Our First Nations student body as well as Mrs. Regan's classes head to the Rattlesnake Run for a day full of fun on Friday too

    9. The June newsletter will come home to parents Tuesday May 31. I will email it out and it is always available on the website each month as well.

    10. Just a reminder that my synrevoice call outs are always also typed to the website so parents have access.

    11. If you are interested in having your child participate in the Summer Reading or Summer Math Program please contact Ms. Boyle at jboyle@sd73.bc.ca

    12. Please also refrain from parking in the staff lot. This parking lot is off limits to parents at all times. Daycares do have access, but all other parents must park below or on the Collingwood side of the school. Thank you for your assistance.

    Thanks everyone,

    Ms. Robb

    Hi Parents,

The following messages will come home Sunday May 22 at 12:00 pm:

    1. No School Monday May 23- Happy Victoria Day!

    2. Safe Arrival cards went home with each child on Friday. Thank you parents for making us the 1st school in the province of British Columbia to use the absence reporting system. Parents, please know that although you have to call the system, please feel free to email or write notes to the teacher letting them know about the absence as well if that reassures you. I know teachers like to know as well. Mrs. Connelly and I have an active part in the process and check and re check reports we are sent after the call outs to ensure everyone is accounted for.

    3. Tuesday May 24- Gr. 6/7's take part in Whunda Days at Centennial Park. All feeder schools to WSS will join together for this fun event. Please send back permission forms and fees.

    4. Welcome back to Luke from Soccer Quest on Tuesday.

    5. PAC invite you to their YEAR END BBQ Planning Meeting on Tuesday May 24 at 5:30 in the library. If you can't make the meeting but would like to help please email the PAC at westmountpac.kamloops@gmail.com

The PAC really just needs parents to volunteer for hour time slots so it won't consume the entire event.

    6. Wednesday is the WESTMOUNT TALENT SHOW! 1:00 pm in the gym. Parents are welcome to attend.

    7. On Wednesday, Mrs. Zirnhelt and Mrs. Torchia's classes go to gymnastics and it is also Pizza with the Principal lunch.

    8. Wed. May 25 is the District 1000 and 1200 m races at Hillside. Mrs. Mount will go with the children.

    9. Gr.1's participate in Arbour Day this week! They will come home with a tree to plant!

    10. Thursday is PAC Hot Dog Day! There will be a reverse reverse lunch to accommodate the hot dog lunch.

    11. Friday is PAC FREEZIE FRIDAY! Send $1

    12. Friday is also DISTRICT TRACK MEET at HILLSIDE. Permission forms will come home next week.

    13. Mrs. Zirnhelt and Mrs. Torchia's classes also go to Isobel Lake Friday. Dress for the weather.

    14. Reminder that May 30-June 3 is BIKE TO SCHOOL WEEK! Westmount is registered so be sure to take part!

    15. May 31 also starts our BOOK FAIR! Thanks for supporting our library fundraiser.

    16. Registration is now open for the Summer Reading Program and Summer Math Program. If you are interested please contact Ms. Boyle for more information.

    Thanks

    Ms. Robb

SAFE ARRIVAL Absence Reporting Starts May 19
by Carol Robb - Wednesday, 18 May 2016, 8:41 PM

As of Thursday, May 19th our new Safe Arrival system goes into full effect at Westmount.  Rather than phoning the school to report your children's absences, please use one of the three methods provided BEFORE 8:30am.  Reference cards (see below) will go home with students soon for parents with all the necessary info.  If you have not yet done so already, please follow the instructions in the email sent to parents last week with your username and temporary password; these are needed to use the website or app for absence reporting.  The toll-free number relies on Caller-ID for authentication so does not require a username or password.  Thank you for your cooperation! A reminder letter was also sent home Wednesday May 18th with all students at Westmount.
